The risk categories of the goods

The UK authorities have introduced a new system for identifying and classifying products and goods.

In this respect, there are 3 categories according to the risks of entry of the goods into the territory, respectively:

High Risk (Risque élevé)Moyen Risque (Risque moyen)Faible Risque (Risque faible)

To find the risk level of your goods, you must refer to/ the corresponding HS codes.

Good to know :
The risk level of goods may be reassessed according to the situation, environment and current events in the country of consignment. In the case of avian flu, for instance, products such as poultry etc...will be high risk products and will be subjected to more stringent controls.

➡️ What documents should be provided depending on the type of risk of the goods ?

The risk table is available below with the documents to be provided :

Risk level High Risk  Medium Risk  Low Risk
Pre-notification
Sanitary certificate  Health Certificate Mandatory* Health Certificate Mandatory*
Need an approved point of entry into the territory
% control 100 %  1 to 30 % control
Note :
Pre-notifications are to be made on IPAFFS for veterinary products and on PEACH for plant protection products.

Sandrine’s trick:

Now, to notify the arrival of your goods in TRACES it takes a delay of 48 hours, then a delay of 24 hours for the pre-notification on IPAFFS.  To save time, we advise you to make the pre-applications at the same time! Indeed, for the IPAFFS pre-notification it is 24h minimum.  You can therefore do both at the same time, which will save you from waiting 24 hours extra.

FBO Labels

As of 1 January 2024, goods will be required to have a FBO label that ensures product traceability for English consumers. At present, there is no border control, but controls may be carried out on arrival at the point of sale or place of release.

These labels must have many information such as the name of the exporting company, the date etc... do not hesitate to contact us for any questions !

As of 31/10/2024, this is what’s changing!

All the sanitary formalities should be dematerialised in the EU direction towards GB thanks to the software TRACES.

However, in the UK to EU direction documents must be provided in original format upon arrival in France.

We will get back to you with more details.
